my friend from netherlands told me that if they performed well enough on a test, they could choose to get into any college of their choice. My friend from turkey had to take an apitude test that would dictate which major she was permitted to enter. in the states, we have SATs tests, which is like an iq test, and that is taken into consideration with grades. If you didn't do well in high school and/or want to save money, you could attend a community college, where you could transfer to a uni.

How is the college admission process like in germany? how much is tuition? Do you have to get General education courses like we do in the united states?

It depends on what you want to study and at which university you want to study. Some universities don't have any additional admission requirements besides having the German Abitur (or equivalent). Other's - usually the better ones - require a specific numerus clausus. You'll find that information on the webpages of the various institutions.

Once you are in there, there are no tuition fees or general education courses. You might be required to pay for the student union or public transportation, though. Which is usually less than €100 per semester.
