I don't see why anyone would be annoyed if Australia would win.
Australia isn't an active member of the EBU. It is only an associate member the same as Japan, US, Canada, Mexico etc. It isn't the same as Israel, Turkey or Azerbaijan for example who are active members.

I'm still not quite understanding how they are in it. I'm Australian by the way but was under the impression that they were originally competing in a guest category but now this will be the third time. The way things are going you might have Canada or Japan in Eurovision in a few years and some "European" countries will miss out.

Here in Italy it is Sanremo week, which is The most important music festival in here. You can like it or not, but you can't avoid to hear news about it. Accidentally, the winner of Sanremo is also our first choice as Eurovision song contest entry.

I would like to remember that in here Sanremo >>>>> Eurovision song contest. A lot of people don't even know Eurovision, but you can't ignore Sanremo.
Just as an example, last year the final of ESC was watched by the 16.94% of Italians, while the final of Sanremo was watched by the 52.52% (only our football national team can beat this percentage of spectators).

The competition will end tomorrow, and in the following days it is really likely that a name for Eurovision will be chosen.
Right now I just want to share the songs that are participating to Sanremo this year. Just listening to them, I can already say that our Eurovision entry will be in Italian and boring. And that we have practically no chances to win. Again.

Spoiler

Al Bano - Di rose e di spine (of roses and thorns)
This singer is 73 years old. He used to be a really good singer and really famous, both in Italy and in some foreign country. Maybe he is becoming a little bit to old for music competition...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0A1...8&spfreload=10

Elodie - Tutta colpa mia (It is all my fault)
Young singer who partecipated to a talent show last year

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsUOJ5ZD0ng

Paola Turci - Fatti bella per te (Look nice for yourself)
A singwriter in her 50s. I have never heard much about her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QgkhtuE-Rg

Samuel - Vedrai (You will see)
Singer in his 40s. He became famous as a member of the band "Subsonica", but this time he is singing alone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L80A_nr9MFk

Fiorella Mannoia - Che sia benedetta (Bless it)
She is a little old too, she is 62, but this song is one of the favorite to win Sanremo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6fbLKY6IfI

Nesli e Alice Paba - Do Retta A Te (I listen to you)
A no sense duet that will go nowhere

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIh44qCd3-4

Michele Bravi - Il Diario Degli Errori (The diary of mistakes)
He is younger than me, and he became famous winning X factor Italia.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YutJUzSVLbo

Spoiler

Fabrizio Moro - Portami via (bring me away)
He became famous partecipating to the "young section" of Sanremo 2007 with a song against the Mafia. He always sings about serious topics.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9dHy-BYDoQ

Giusy Ferreri - Fa talmente male (It is so painful)
Another singer who became famous after the participation to X factor. She is known for her really peculiar voice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw8CGo_bHOY

Gigi D'Alessio - La prima stella (the first star)
He is really famous, his style is influenced by Naples music (he doesn't sing pure neomelodic, but his songs have an hint of it). I have never met anyone who likes him, but still he is really popular.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4nmmrwvBj8

Raige & Giulia Luzi - Togliamoci la voglia (satisfy our whim)
Another really strange duet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skeeKjLm3mg

Ron - L'ottava meraviglia (the 8th wonder)
Another quite old songwriter, he is 64 this year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rn6rMQhULc

Ermal Meta - Vietato Morire (It is forbidden to die)
He partecipated to Sanremo (young section) last year, and before it looks like he wrote a lot of songs for other more famous singers. According to wikipedia, he was born in Albania (I write this only because it can be important during the Eurovision song contest, it can mean a +12 from Albania )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WMejmcT9ZY&t=57s

Michele Zarrillo - Mani nelle mani (hands in hands)
Another songwriter who is too old for my music tastes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhwHv-KrfbY

Spoiler

Lodovica Comello - Il cielo non mi basta (the sky is not enough for me)
According to my sister she is more like an entertainer than a singer, and I tend to agree with her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIcrSGr5x6M

Sergio Sylvestre - Con te (with you)
The good giant who won Amici (another talent show) last year. He is able to sing live really well, if he wants.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFC80tUPbb8

Clementino - Ragazzi Fuori (Boys out)
He is a rapper (teoretically). But, of course, in Sanremo you can't sing a real rap (you have to sing with an orchestra playing the music and all the rest, it is not the genre of the show)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5sBxJbl6hc

Alessio Bernabei - Nel mezzo di un applauso (in the really middle of an applause)
Another young singer, famous because of a talent show. He is singing really bad in the live performances this year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkMPRh59UcU

Chiara - Nessun posto è casa mia (No place is my home)
Another singer from a talent show. This song is really boring, if compared with her old songs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaNHB6vkRfk

Francesco Gabbani - Occidentali's Karma (Western's Karma)
He won Sanremo (young section) last year with a really similar song. If I'm not wrong, both me and improb wanted him at Eurovision last year already. And I'm not changing idea this year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OnRxfhbHB4

Bianca Atzei - Ora esisti solo tu (Now only you exist)
I really don't know when she became famous, but in the last few years she published really a lot of songs (both alone and as a ft artist)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_3IjJwVV9o

Marco Masini - Spostato di un secondo (Shifted by one second)
Songwriter with a really peculiar voice (or you like it or you hate it).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plQx9wqMubU

I don't like the Politvision, the show is boring and predictable... plus there is too many politics.

You only say that because nobody ever votes for Czechia.

I can't believe it, they choose my favorite one (and my second favorite was in the top 3). Also, he immediately accepted to sing at Eurovision (this doesn't happen often with Sanremo).
Prepare yourself for seeing apes costumes and Tibet Monks orange tunics on Eurovision's stage

with some little changes by me)

And his live performance was like this:

For the second performance he was dressed with an ape costume and the ape was wearing the orange sweater, while in the final day (when you are obliged to dress formally) he was in a suit, and the ape was wearing a bow tie.

Ahh Ahh Eurovison again. They never had any good song in the last years. Just not my style of music.
