Because it is expensive you will find roommate options. As summer approaches more temporary work opens to cover for Swedes on holiday. By fall this could lead to something more long-term.

You need to look into a car and license.

One step at a time.
This is weird advice. You're assuming he has the money to cover the extreme (by N American standards) expense involved in getting a license, not to mention buying and owning a car in Sweden.

Temp work to fill in for Swedes on vacation? Do we even know if the OP speaks the language? What temp agency or legit employer would hire him? Too many assumptions here.

OP's recent and brief posting DNA indicates no clear plan.

Be prepared that prices of housing in Stockholm is very much comparable to downtown Manhattan.

Southern Sweden is preferable IMO. Close to the continent, and much much more affordable.

Well he didn't ask IF he should do it...he asked 'how?' There's always a way if someone is determined. It's like saying you can't buy a house in Tuscany.

If you're thinking of getting a place in Tuscany, don't bother, there's nothing to rent.

hahahahaha! Here's a guy who did ZERO research on life in Sweden and visas, not to mention the kicker: the housing market in and around Stockholm. Boy, are you in for a surprise, OP! I strongly recommend you do some research on internet forums about apt. availability and the rental mkt nightmare in Stockholm. It's usually best to look before you leap, you know?
