It seems that central/eastern Europe has had enough of the invasion. They are beginning to close their borders to Afghans, which in return . Has trickled down all the way to Macedonia. 25% of new economic migrants are Afghans and now the are trapped.

It seems the lack of border control , and the constant IMPORTING of migrants is leading to a disaster that should take place sometimes this summer.

Greece is broke , and cannot take all these people. Yet, they still import migrants from the islands and bring them inland.

Who wants to go to Greece for vacation now? I know I wouldn't....

What are some predictions or thoughts?

Why is the Corfu to the heel of Italy route not used more often?

Greece has been around for more than 2 millenniums, not many other countries can say the same. This current crisis is like a walk in the park compared to situations they had to face in the past.

It is further Distance than Turkey. Boats would have to come up from the African Coast which is more dangerous.

Try western Greece, the Ionian side.

As you mentioned, it is a long way away from the rickety, illegal and very short boat path on the Aegean side. Just look at a map: what we call Greece and Turkey politically are geographically intimately intertwined; the political split over the past two hundred years or so is the anomaly, not the norm.

Well, recent cooperation among US, Russia and Iran give a tiny glimmer of hope for some stability in the Oil Crescent, Syria in particular, but it is a complex multi-sided, multi-faced game, and I expect it to go on for several more decades, and the territory of Greece will continue to be caught be in it in some way or another.

Like a kaleidoscope.

Is Greece finished?

As long as it remains part of the NATO alliance and an appendage of some sort of core Europe it will flag along as it has been doing since it became an appendage of core Europe about two hundred years ago, for better and for worse.

Good Luck!

I'm sure Greece will strike back, they have been through worse situations in the past and they always have ideas

There is 150 km between Turkey and mainland Greece, only 103 km between Greece and Italy.

Turks and other pirates are smuggling migrants to Greek Aegean islands, almost a stone's throw from the western shores of Turkey, a professional could even swim it in some cases. Greek authorities then ferry the migrants from the islands to the mainland, first in or near Athens, then by train or bus to the northern borders where now the migrants are meeting resistance.

Calculate the distance from the utmost shores of Libya to the Italian island of Pantelleria.
