Just visited here, and it's an interesting little city. The money has been going quite strongly into large monuments all lit up at night. It's really quite a sight to see at night. Gorgeously large buildings, beautiful bridges, lights everywhere. Cafes and restaurants with everyone siting outside at night, all lined up and down along a nice pleasant river, with all the monuments.
That being said, the sidewalks and everything else are badly in need of repair! But, at night, you can't see all that so clearly...
People are great...friendly, helpful, etc. As they are throughout all of the former Yugoslavia areas.
Anyone been to Skopje recently? Or even in the past, prior to all of the monuments and statues and such?
yes, it's very interesting city...I like the mountain Vodno from where you can see whole city from above...also the old bazaar is very interesting and old, the main square is full with monuments and there is a lot of new buildings. I love this city!
We are thinking of going based on a couple of youtube videos we watched this weekend. Anyone been recently?
in 2018, it's safe and clean...can't comment on the english as i was trying to speak my language - nightlife surely can be better though not sure what OP means under "all the night lights", but there's also a huge improvement since my last visit there a decade ago, so between 2008-2018 so to say.
