It was expected that Macron would win (at least after the first round). The fact that Mélenchon won 20% of votes in the 1st round, though, was horrifying. His campaign programme was completely insane. He would've been way worse for France than Le Pen.

Well I think it was a good social democratic program. I hope he becomes prime minister.

You mean you would have prefered a fascist that was going to get France out of the european union ? No thanks.

His programme included introducing a 90% tax for all income above €360k. What business would stay in France if they have to file almost everything in taxes? And he wanted to “cancel” public debt which is just delusional. He’s also a Chinese tankie but France isn’t really relevant in Asia so that’s not that important.

Fascism sucks too but Melenchon is way too radical.

I have read that Mélenchon is against France’s NATO membership or something like that.

What is your understanding of his position on NATO?

Do you support that?

France was outside of NATO for 40 years I think, I don't think it's that relevant nowadays. I don't really care to be honest.

Well I'm sure it would not have gotten up to 90% anyway, but there used to be a high income tax above 50% for millionaries, which was cancelled by Macron, causing the state to lose a lot of money ever since.

Who makes 360 000 euros a month anyway aside for a few fortunes who generally put most of their money in Switzerland already. France loses billions in fiscal evasion every year, so it wouldn't have changed much.

France was part of NATO from early days, bound by the mutual defense terms of the treaty, but from the time of De Gaulle for some 40 years it was outside of the NATO command structure, maintaining direct control of command of its own forces.

I read that Ms Le Pen wanted to take France out of the NATO command structure again.

Do you think that NATO is not that relevant nowadays?

What is Mr Melechon’s stated position on NATO?

So you just want to be entertained. The electoral process for you is not about policy; it's about getting dopamine hits. Your attitude holds politics to be just a reality show, and your approval of a candidate is based not on civic efficacy or policy outcome but on how amused you are staring at the television coverage.

You sound like a very un-serious person.

Any business that could pay its employee competitive wages would make way more than 360k/month.

Exactly. Politics is not a reality show.
