I purchased a pair of Vibrams because I didn't want to shell out another $400 on custom inserts (which helped, but were just oo expensive). I did much research on the Vibrams after hearing from so many people how great they are. I finally decided to buy a pair and I only spent $100. I purchased the all-terrain pair and my feet, knees and hips are so much happier for it. I am on my feet a lot and they have really made a difference.

One thing to remember just like anything, you need to ease into them. Our feet are so use to being in closed, schrunch up shoes for so long that the Vibrams feel awkward at first. Our feet are not use to being the natural position. Take time to get into them properly.

Thanks

I'll try that. There's no chance of water or detergents damaging the fabric, right?

I see Drummer's derecommendation, but I have to say I have not had a single problem thus far.

I'd only attribute it to the fact that I have strong feet genetically. Half my ancestors were farmers working barefeet in the equatorial sun in paddy and wheat fields I've run around in muddy swamps and rough terrain and forests as a kid, plus I have had a history of drinking goat leg soup, I mean soup made from boiling goat's legs. It's an ethnic thing meant to strengthen legs in that part of the world.

So, maybe my legs have adapted to it well. But you're right about getting used to it. I felt goofy the first week.

Now, I use it on the AMT, the rower, treadmill and sometimes on the stepmaster, though I won't recommend it on the stairmaster coz it just pains my legs, but maybe coz I do level 12+

All I can say is, it depends on individual comfort levels and body strength. By strength, I don't necessarily mean macho, people have inherent enduring strength by birth, that strength.
