I work in an office all day from 7 to 4:30 Monday thru Friday. This winter has really taken a toll on me! I'm female, age 28, 5'5" and weigh 145 and really flabby jabby. I'd really like to lose some weight and feel great again.
I've noticed I can't sleep on my sides anymore (have to lie on my back). My ribs start to hurt after a few minutes, though I'm not sure if this is weight related. I also feel tired often. This is really bad because I used to be active - I used 24 Hr Fitness gym a lot when I lived in Houston.
With my workaholic schedule (I'm also taking a graduate class one night a week), when can I fit in some serious fitness time? I need help! I keep saying 'tonight' I'll do blah blah blah but I haven't.
In all fairness, I've been super busy lately, closing on a house and studying for an exam, but it's just excuses. I'm hoping with my new house I can start taking walks around the neighborhood (it's prettier/sidewalk-friendly area than my current apartment area) or do some gardening. I hate jogging, but I enjoy walking, especially in parks. I'm usually a happy, go-lucky person, but my weight depresses me! It's not so much the weight (I'm not *that* overweight), it's just that I don't FEEL healthy!
I can't wait for warmer weather in Cleveland so I can take out my mountain bike!
You should feel ok at that weight as its barely overweight at all. Since you don't, I am going to guess that its more your diet.
You don't need "serious" fitness time. You need "smart" fitness time and to be paying attention to your dietary intake quality and quantity. I suggest to break up intense cardio sessions, control your eating, and lift 3 nights a week.
The biggest calorie burners I know of that are easy to break up:
- running
- bike or stationary bike
You can get up 10 minutes earlier and get on the bike. Do another 10 when you get home. The 10-20 before dinner. This is a good starting point and when you get comfortable with that try to make it a total of 60 minutes daily.
But you must control what you eat. Especially at that weight and lifestyle or your activity may not be enough to lose the weight.

Sounds like you know what the problem is. It's not your "workaholic" schedule.
Gardening is NOT exercise. I dont care what anyone says, it is NOT exercise. My gardeners do 20-30 yards per week and they are in no way shape or form in good physical shape. In fact, they are FAT!!
Your work hours of 7:00 to 4:30 gives you ample time to either workout before work or after. This is no where near close to being a "workaholic" schedule. This leaves you with plenty of time for studying. You need to make a commitment that you WILL workout 5 days per week at a specific time and just do it. No excuses or coming to a forum asking people "oh what shall I ever so do?" You need to WANT IT. I get up every morning between 5:00 and 5:30 for cardio and squeeze in 30-45 minutes right after work for working out. If I can do it, with taking care of a 3 year old, 15 year old and studying for securities exams anyone can do it.
Most people are not Jack LaLanne or LaoTzu. She has been gaining weight. I think my suggestions are more realistic for the person who has been gaining weight.
"Eat leaner, healthier foods and walk. A lot. Gardening is great exercise as well."
OK...maybe gardening is not great exercise. But I once talked to a nurse who said that gardeners often had great butts and were healthy.
You have gardeners? Can I stay in a guest house while telling a true story that is almost impossible to believe?

The story is no fun to tell. It is movie material for the extremely brave.
I get up at 4:30-5am in the morning and work out for an hour & a half several times a week, then I put in a full day's work where I work 8-9 hours a day, sometimes 10. That sounds like a lot but it's not...why? Because it's an investment in my life.
You see girlzilla's gone missing. Sounds like the weekend traveler type
I'm thinking that you frightened her as$ off with this lil gem: "the ones that are so flat they don't even need to sit and stretch cheeks apart to take a dump"

Possibly. But trust me, I've seen some of those flat bottomed cheeks every day in the streets and it's scary
