Oooooohh I just got back from skating for 22 minutes. It seems like nothing but it was quite the workout.

I want to get up to an hour a day!!

roller skating is super fun. I got rid of my old skates a long time ago (which was stupid) but I still go to the rink on occasion and bust it out on some rentals if it's a slow Friday night. Most die hards would never be caught dead on inlines.

I miss playing landhockey when I read this... And Icehockey even more....

I learned to skate when I was 2 or 3 years old, but I never figured out how to do it with the quadrollers(asuming it's those thingys with the wheels in 4 corners instead of in a row)... with the blades you can just do a hockeystop by sliding on the side at the right angle, With quad rollers you only have the lump hanging in the front... will somebody explain to me how to use that for a full stop from going high speed in let's say a downhill or something to standing still? I just don't see how to efficienttly stop with that forward lump other than with a noseplant...

Man, I feel old - I was trying to figure out what sort of new fangled skate you bought ..... then I realized you meant "roller skates"

I used to LOVE roller skating, did it for hours and hours during jr high. Totally takes me back when I hear some old school roller rink classic.....

About a week ago I took my goddaughter (11) to a blackout skate where the lights were out & everyone had glow sticks....it was SO much fun & such great exercise!

I could not believe how sweaty I was...we were there for 2 hours though!

I went roller skating again this past weekend & brought 2 ladies in their 50s with me that both hadn't been in years. They lasted about an hour but they're both already calling me to go back, we may try again tonight!

I'm with the others, I prefer the regular 4 wheel skates to roller blades, they hurt my ankles more but I've got big legs & always had to pound the straps shut so it's probably just a personal problem!

There is a reason Rollerblades blew Quads out of the water. Outside, as opposed to in a rink or on a track, four (five!) wheels inline get a much longer glide. Google "inline speedskates" and you will see the inspiration for Rollerblades. The Dutch were using four and five wheel inline roller skates to train in summer for short and long track ice events for years. Ankle support is non-existent nor can there be any to be truly fluent in one's stroke. Roller blade boots feel like a cast to me, I just can't stand them. Inline speedskates don't have brakes. They are, however, as much faster than Rollerblades as Rollerblades are over Quads... whoa. The only thing faster is a bicycle. The only thing faster than a bicycle is a speedskater on ice!
