What opinions due the excercise gurus have in regards to the practice of working out after drinking the night before. And I dont mean getting totally smashed, but rather say a few beers or a bottle of wine with dinner. Is this a good thing? bad thing?

If you feel like working out the day after your party, the party sucked.

When I drank (more than I do now) I would make it a point to go to the gym the day after (which meant every day).

My sweat smelled like tequila according to my freinds (who were also out with me)

ahhhh........... those were the days.

Working-out after engaging in some moderate imbibing the night before is perfectly fine, and many, many, people do it everday. The only possible caution I could offer you is to make sure that you're properly hydrated, as alcohol is a notorious diuretic. In fact, as you probably well know, the main cause for that lousy hangover feeling after a rough night is de-hydration.
So...lug along that bottle of water or Gatorade to the gym with you, and go for it when hitting the gym after a night of drinking. Just make sure you warm-up properly and do some stretching exercises afterwards to get rid of any lactic acid build-up--which booze can also contribute to.

Thanks for you response Drummerboy. I rarely workout under those conditions but have in the past. It seems when I do, I'm more subject to injury, nothing serious, but things like strains. Maybe I'm not drinking enough water or stretching enough. Anyways I'm glad to know that many people workout after having a few drinks the night before without any adverse results.

I think its a good idea to take your weight the night before partying and in the morning to see how dehydrated you are. Its actually healthy for your body as it helps move the drinking out of your system faster.

Start your morning with eggs, banana and some honey toast while you hydrate. Those things are suppose to be helpers in clearing out your post party symptoms.

I actually went out for an 8 mile run last week after getting pretty drunk. The run went by in a flash! However, I paid for it the next morning. Despite drinking three 24-ounce water bottles before I went to sleep, I still woke up with a headache.

As long as you hydrate, I don't see a problem. Alcohol is dehydrating, as you all know.

It's really not an issue. Drink water and go.

Your liver turns all that suger/alcohol into formaldehyde which goes into your bloodstream. Formaydehyde is what causes the headaches and brain fog. Drinking water helps you body clear the formaldeyde.

L Argine in foods (oatmeal, beef, pumpkin seeds) or a supplement along with plenty of water will help clear aldehydes faster.

Gatorade is a bad idea as it contains tons of sugar or worse, high fructose corn syrup.
