I was never obese, but I used to be 205 lbs or so, as a 5'10" male. I was this weight for about two years. I decided I didn't like being that heavy, so I dramatically increased my exercise routine and began to pay close attention to what I eat. I dropped down to 150 lbs fairly quickly. I am now about 145 lbs and have been around this weight for the better part of two years. I think I will maintain it because it's not too hard to do .. I just eat sensibly and exercise a lot. I think that exercise is probably the key. Even at my heaviest, I was really active. Active lifestyles promote thinness. That said, I don't make the mistake of thinking I can eat whatever I want because I go to the gym daily (or more). I understand that diet has a much bigger impact on weight loss than exercise. I eat a more or less "perfect" diet (lean protein, vegetables, good carbs) about 80 percent of the time. I splurge on the weekends.
