I did a few 20 mile runs back in high school when I was training for cross country. Not many, but a handful. I've also trained for and participated in four half marathons since then. Before each half, I did several long runs in the range of 10-14 miles. 14 is about my max since high school. I haven't gotten up to a marathon yet, its not really a goal at the moment but maybe later in life. I like running long distances but the time commitment is a lot.
A few weeks ago I did a 10 mile hike, which took me a lot longer than my 20 mile runs used to. We hiked from about 9am until about 4pm.
The 'longest walk' question...I've seen it asked many, many times on C-D Forum over the years...
Makes me wonder...why is this question always coming back around?
Oh, and I once walked 30 miles. My legs were incredibly sore the next few days. All in all, I'd rather use another method of travelling for such a distance.
The longest walk. I was, maybe, 10 years old. We had to walk out of the woods - 2 adults and 2 kids - after our car broke down on a dirt road in the White Mountains. We walked from late afternoon until just before sunrise. I still remember it. It wasn't that bad. I didn't cry. The grown-ups went crazy.
My first marathon I messed up with my shoes and ending up walking and not running a good bit of it. By the time was all said and done, my Garmin said the NYC Marathon was 29 miles.
Unless you got really lost your garmin was off. They have a terrible time around buildings as the gps is bouncing off of everything
You walked 40-50 miles in one stretch? I've walked that much over the course of a few days (avg 15 miles a day) and the farthest I've walked in one day was 22.5 miles. Can't really imagine doing more than that.
Yes mostly flat even terrain. We hiked for nearly 20 hours straight. We needed to get out of where we were.
25 miles as a machinegunner in the Marine Corps. They let us put the .50 cal's in Humvee's after 15 miles. The last mile in full MOPP gear was a treat.
For non military treks the most I've walked is 14 miles. I like to walk, better than anything but cycling. When I retire I'm going to walk across my state.
