It's all in the genes. My mother's siblings all started chain smoking as kids, drank heavily well into their 60s and almost all make it to their 90s or, are now in their 90s. I would not say they look good for their ages but, after 75 years of heavy smoking and a good 45 years of drinking it amazes me that they are still kicking. I hope to quickly and quietly expire sometime on my mid 80s but, nature does things her way.

Do your best to live a fulfilling life, because life is too short, whether its 70 or 130.

They say the important thing is to stay physically and mentally active. One woman was still going to the gym and using the weight machines, at the end of her 90's, or in her early 100's. I know a university professor who's still sharp and teaching at 96! She loves her work, and is very devoted to her grad students, whom she mentors. .
I won't do anything except to refuse "extraordinary measures" and ask for assisted suicide if I have a painful and terminal condition.

I am just one of those people who firmly believe that QUALITY of life is much more important than the number of years one lives. If I can be physical and mentally healthy until I'm 100, great! -- but if not, I'd rather be dead. (And, no, I am not "just saying that" -- three out of four of my grandparents died at age 92, and their last couple of years were horrible.)

I can understand if at 75, 80, etc. you are ill in insufferable ways that cannot be improved, but other than that why would you want to go at that age? We don't know what happens to us "after" and for all we know it will be just like before we were born, which would mean even if it is not "dreamless sleep forever" and there is some sort of "afterlife", we may be of a completely different consciousness and not remember a thing, which essentially is the same as being "asleep" to me.

I bet when some of the posters saying this get to those ages they will feel different if they are in good health then. Don't rush it, when it's time it will be time, enjoy the ride!

Think of the odds of even being here to begin with....you had to be the one of hundreds of eggs in your mother's lifetime that by chance of fate became the one or two or more in her lifetime that became a living being! We should consider ourselves lucky!

I think that if you're posting the age beyond which you don't think you want to live, you should post your current age.

Because I'd take a 69-year-old saying they don't want to live past 70 differently from a 29-year-old saying the same thing.

and have you watched the movie "Harold and Maude" recently?

I'm convinced that if you hibernate, you can probably break this ceiling pretty easily.
