well by prepping for the marathon you'll have the exercise component down pat. all you need to do is make sure the diet is cleaned up and you'll probably drop weight as you train. best wishes to you!
After a lot of road races over the past 24 years, I noticed that many runners are not people who are obsessed with their diet. I would see a lot of junk food consumed after races. I met one runner who always brought a small cooler of beer to drink after races. If you take up serious running, you will need more carbohydrates in your diet. I'm not downplaying the benefit of losing weight to improve your running and your overall health. It will definitely help. Many serious runners find, however, that it is difficult to put in a lot of miles and restrict your diet at the same time. There is also a feeling that You can eat whatever you want and you will simply burn the calories. As I mentioned earlier, I intentionally gained weight to get to 200 lbs. and then struggled to maintain that weight.
