Feet do get sweaty & dirty in sandals without socks. I never wear sandals anyways. Girls wearing flip flops with painted toe nails & normal looking toes are nice. I did know a girl who had hammer toes but she still wore flips.
Sandals should be worn with socks, no one wants to see peoples ugly nasty yellowed nail feet. I notice in the cultures where people wear sandals without socks they carry a noxious odor that smells like a mix of sweat, cheap leather, and other nasty bits.
I don't know about all you naysayers, but have you seen some of the toes hanging out of those sandals!! Some people absolutely should wear some socks with their sandals! There ain't nothin' wrong with it!! Geez, what some people get obsessed about!
Plus, having recently traveled by plane, it totally grossed me out seeing all those bare feet walking through the security checkpoint! Now THAT'S disgusting!! Eeewwwww to bare feet in public areas--excluding the appropriate areas, i.e., beach, pools, etc.!
Socks and sandals is a European thing... Noted it mostly among the Germans and Swiss over 30 years ago. 'Gave directions to a lost German tourist last week... 'n he was wearing socks and sandals. Me? I don't even own lace-up shoes... all boots.
I don't really think it is cute, but I do think it is practical sometimes, like at the airport when flying from Denver to the tropics in the winter. That time I wore dark gray socks with black and gray Teva's, with long pants.
especially with Birkenstocks. Unless you are Christy Brinkley; she could get away with it.
