I agree that obesity should not be celebrated. I see so many children who likely weigh more than I do (I'm 6'1") and I am appalled that the parents would allow them to get this way.

Your right her need to PROCLAIM she was DISGUSTED by the very idea of an obese person celebrating (whatever) was her showing how much she wanted to make them feel good!

Disgusted= Extreme dislike or revulsion.

All because because they don't look the way she (or anyone else) thinks they should? or because they don't live their lives (or anyone) in a way she/he/they likes?

I don't see obesity as being "celebrated" (and "outraged" is a pretty strong word too) ... I do think there is a movement to accept that beauty (both internal and external) comes in all shapes, sizes and colors....I do think this is somewhat of a backlash against the harmful ideals that the only way girls and women can be considered "beautiful" (or in some cases even "good enough") is to be uber-skinny...Now, that said, of course it is rude to make negative comments to anyone about their weight (be it to put down the sandwich or to pick up a sandwich)- frankly, that is between the individual and their personal physician.

"Hate," "disgust," "dislike," "revulsion" ... these are your words, not hers. I didn't see those words one time except in your posts. Like I said, I doubt anybody here hates overweight people.

And VG has a point. She asked why it's OK for people to make fun of her for being thin, and your response was that she should love herself more so these comments roll off her back. Not that people should stop saying them, yet you apparently want people to stop making comments about overweight people.

Agreed. You can't have it both ways.

Look up the word disgust (OP'S WORD) Julia, then the word hate (ALSO RELATING TO THE OP'S WORD)

Re: VG's point about thin bashing: Just as bad, however clearly sounding like an attempt at justifying the OP's issues IN THIS THREAD. My suggestion, hurry up and start a thread about how disgusted (which is an extreme dislike or revulsion,) you (or whomever) are about skinny girls celebrating and watch me go!

Until then stay on topic and STOP trying to distract the readers from the "DISGUST for obese" topic at hand.

Oh and what I want people to stop doing, is ignoring their issues (and problems) and dwelling on others (or trying to convince them that they should have issues for you to dwell on while ignoring their own) !

Our society has given the seal of approval to treating smokers with hate and disdain. Smokers are causing health care costs to raise for all of us. Smokers are deliberately ruining their health. It is OK to dis a smoker, they are bad.

Now society is using the same mindset to target the obese. Overweight people are causing health care costs to raise for all of us. Overweight people are deliberately ruining their health. It is OK to dis a fat person, they are bad.

Society is using shame, guilt and hatred to deal with smokers.............hey, it's OK, make smokers feel bad about themselves and they will quit smoking.

Now, society is turning its sights on the overweight and will use the same tactics to make them feel bad about themselves so they will lose weight.

Obese people are just beginning to feel the wrath of the nanny state, they are the new target.

Agreed....I'm not sure the OP understands exactly what she ASSERTED. Maybe she does, she did kinda throw in how "she has friends who are all shapes and sizes and loves them all the same" at the end there.

Either you love them all the same or your disgusted ( which means you
extremely dislike or are revulsion ) by some and not the others!

I guess SHE wants it both ways!

One can have friends that know they have issues, don't celebrate their issues, and don't personally insult others for being one way or another.

The issue is celebrating an unhealthy lifestyle that is going to make everyone pay more in taxes for health care. It was never about insulting anyone for whatever size they are.

You can't control what people say. That does not make any kind of verbal bullying right, but bear with me here.

You can control how you react to what other people say, however; I believe that's what Bjones is trying to suggest to the OP. Please correct me if I'm in error.

Good point, and something to watch out for.
