photos (head, light, look, natural)

Apparently I'm camera phobic or something. Anybody else have this issue? I think I look weird/different in pictures. People tell me I look much better in person but I kind of would like my photos to turn out well too.

any advice on how to feel more comfortable?

I generally photograph well - or so I'm told. I feel that I look strange in a lot of pictures, like they look like me, but not quite me (how contradictory :P). I've also been told I look better in person. I'd like to know the secret, too!

A model once told me that if you tilt your head slightly, smile naturally, and look a little bit above where the camera flash is than you will have great photos. I generally just try not to pose too much though, I end up looking less rigid that way.
