I don't have collection of vintage dresses but I have a pair of pant, a jewelry box, purse and recently I got a earring. I got all the stuff from my grand mother.
There area some good vintage stores in the Haight-Ashbury that are fun. My closet isn't vintage, somewhere between thrift store and 60% off rack. At least in the Haight and thrift stores I can find Made In USA!
If you do a search on Ebay and preface the item name with "vintage" you will find such items. I already found a vintage vacuum that I had about 35 years before it broke down, as well as a vintage desk lamp that also died. They just don't make appliances like they used to, or where they used to. I also queried vintage London Fog jackets.
I used to try to shop at vintage stores but rarely made any purchases. The clothes just don't really fit my body at all...and I dislike getting things tailored...I do occasionally but consider it a pain. Now if I could find a tailor that would come to my house, that would be different!
I have a few vintage dresses and cardigans that I've gotten from vintage shops over the past few years. I'm not a huge vintage fan, but every now and then I'll see something that I like.

Same here. Size ten and tall. Lots of jewelry and accessories. Youre right about the womens sizes. Have you tried looking at mens. I have a decent amount of mens vintage. Older rayon shirts, bowling shirts, etc . We tall gals can really work a suit jacket or a top coat. Some times I even wear a tie. With lots of big pins of course.
Also check out full length swing coats. They will be too short but if you have them shortened they make perfect 3/4 coats.
