I used to be measured as an A34 if the bra fitter was large now it's more a B32.... I could try both on for them and then they'd always disagree and say I was definantly a B34 until that showed wrong and eventually I would try on a C32 and that would with me well... Once I was told in victoria secret's I was too small band size for any of their bras. So I really think bra fitting makes no sense. Up until now I found out that the key is to exhale and then add 4 inches to the band size still not a perfect method. I just go with what looks best.

Someone explained this "scam" a lot more eloquently than I did:

Quote:
Next, it’s widely understood at this point that the plus-four method of measuring comes from the pre-1960′s, when bras were made of non-stretchy materials and boning. With the invention of elastane in 1959, bra construction completely changed, yet apparently the letters and numbers system used for bra sizing did not. Why retailers and manufacturers still insist upon using the same plus-four method these days is a mystery. That would be like using the fitting instructions of a 19th century swim costume for a modern Olympic competition swimsuit. Though the purpose may be the same, there’s no denying that it’s two entirely different garments. So using sizing that differs from pre-1960s is not vanity sizing; it’s compensating for a new style while still being shoehorned into the same sizing scheme.

My local paper recently did an article where the journalist went to several different upscale lingerie stores and was professionally fitted at all of them. Same woman, about 5 or so stores. Every single store measured her at a different size, and every one of those sizes was different from the size she had been wearing prior to the experiment. I was pretty amazed. I don't have any confidence in a "professional fitting" anymore!
