Slightly off topic, but do people even care about rings any more? People hawk man-made jewels, CZ, and "gold plated" metals on all the shopping networks and people buy all of that stuff. I constantly see women sporting gigantic stones these days, even random cashiers at the grocery store. It's basically like the gem version of a breast implant, at a certain point if everyone has these gigantic and fancy rings, it essentially makes a real one almost pointless in some ways.

Ive noticed that there is a lot of plated sterling silver jewellery now, I dont understand why anyone would want plated jewellery, Id much rather wear the sterling silver and not any kind of fakery that might rub off in time.

When the gold plating wears off than you have a sterling piece.

I have a few pieces from Stauer. The gems are good, but the gold plate is very poor, and seems to rub off leaving a brown brass color. If they called diamondaura a CZ, I would like to buy it, since I now come to like CZ as a healing stone in its own right, though manmade. But like you say, CZ is generally cheaper. But not always, there are a lot of very expensive CZ pieces out there, it all depends on the quality of the mount, and the beauty and art of the design.

Hi, I am one of those random grocery store workers who wears CZ... I wear it as a healing stone. I also have a lot of genuine stones, maybe 300 or so different kinds of stones. I prefer a stone that has been treated or created without irradiation. CZ is made with radio waves (causing extreme temperature). Maybe most of the stones at a jewelers' nowadays are either manmade or are treated stones. Also they are selling manmade stones at a high price, such as created sapphires or rubies. So far I am unwilling to wear a created stone of any kind (identical but manmade). I like that CZ has a higher dispersion or fire than diamond, and I am very fond of my zircons (natural zircons). CZ is made with zirconium dioxide and either calcium or yttrium. Zircon on the other hand is zirconium silicate. When I look at my zircons I see a similarity to the way they hold light compared to a CZ. Chemically I find zirconium fascinating, and zirconium dioxide is one of the most refractory materials known, and used in industry for this reason.

Zircons from a part of Western Australia are the oldest minerals known on earth. Also zircon is used in geochronology. Zirconium is atomic number 40, which is a very physical number in numerology, like 'the soul of matter'.

I don't know why people would by diamonds OR diamond-look-alikes. Kinda boring, if you ask me. I like colored gemstones.

They just want to make it sound better than it really is. A lot of women these days arent buying into the diamond b.s.. They'd rather save money for a house, kids. Real diamond rinfs are expensive as check and honestly pointless. Nothing wrong with a substitute.
