Men sweat. Undershirts are cheap and absorb sweat. Dress shirts and polo shirts are expensive. Dress shirts and polo shirts that don't get stained by sweat last longer.
Get over it.

Well I'm still wearing them because I have tattoos that would show through my dress shirts. It's not often I dress "up" these days since the trend is "down" but regardless it's important to always take things on our bodies into considerations like nyc2020 mentioned with our nipples. I agree, a sport shirt rubbing up against them hurts, the skin around them is delicate on men too.
Now if the underclothing would "stick out", then no, I would not wear it and just go for a darker color if I could.
I still think white undershorts underneath light colored pants is far more of a fashion faux pas than the upper body.
I prefer T-shirts with sleeves so I can roll my cigarettes up in the sleeve.
