How much do those usually go for?

Going a bit sideways on OP's question:

I've used several, over the decades, about age 16 to current.

None to-date have given nearly the close shave and good look as a Gillette three-blade. Mach 3, I think.

Blades are expensive, of course, which is a bummer. Ongoing mess and expense, to be sure. I buy all that in bulk at Costco for some marginal savings. And the blades do last a number of weeks.

My facial hair is blonde, hence my C-D user name, hence I usually shave every other day and no one is the wiser and my skin thanks me. If I let it go a week, people may notice. @two weeks, I've got that shadow, which btw starts to itch and be a nuisance that isn't worth it as a fashion statement (more like a laziness statement).

Someday, there will be an electric shaver that really equals blades. It's technology. Until then, nope: the stubble, skin irritation, etc. from electric are absolutely not worth it to me.

Tell you what I think ---

When you put the pre-shave on did you wait and let it dry for 2-3 minutes before shaving? Or did you put it on and shave right away?
If it was the latter I see why you have that opinion.

What concerns me is that someone knows what sucking monkey balls is like.

Me too.

I had a Remington once and didn't like it as much. Returned it and got another Norelco. Been using them for 40 years.
I think of it as a big easy eraser for your face.

They're around $100.00. You can get one for a little less and other models are a little more.

Blade replacement should take place once every 8-10 months. They are about $32.00.
Use the little brush that comes with it at least once a week.

Nothing beats shaving with a Mach 3 razor in the shower. A shave so close I only have to do it twice a week.

I use a Braun Series 7 - 790cc, combined with Aramis Lab Series pre-electric shave solution. My facial hair tends to grow flat against the skin, and this is one of few approaches that worked decently for me.

Every now and then I'll use an Andis T-Outliner trimmer for touching up here and there.
