A little over your price point but I wore these bad boys for two years back in high school, through two salty Chicago winters and countless miles of walking and biking. The soles completely wore through after 2 years of everyday wear, then 1 year of being used as biking shoes, then 1 year of being used as yard-work shoes.
They look classy and are very durable. Highly recommended.
So, sandals are out and sneaker season has started. But I just found out that the only pair of sneakers I own, has a badly damaged sole. I almost fell while walking with it today. I seriously need a pair of sneakers, one which isn't too expensive (around $40), and lasts for 2-2.5 years. without major damage. Any suggestions on what to buy ?
Doesn't exist. If you wear them every day even a pair of good sneakers will last a few months; the padding wears out pretty quickly. If you don't mind the padding, everything else in a New Balance 608 or 623 will last a good long time, and they're about $60.

Looks like a new style I have not tried out. I'll give it a shot .

That doesn't look too bad, and it's solid, not meshy. Those lightweight sneakers with a lot of mesh on the uppers are very cold in the winter! Maybe when warmer weather comes around, you can find a deal on some lightweight ones, then you'll get twice the life out of them.

Well, I live in Georgia, and winter here is around 60 F . Nights are cold though, but overall its not so cold that one can't wear the meshy type.

Merrells are anything but cheap but are extremely tough. My last pair lasted 5 years despite the 150 degree pavement temperatures here in the Phoenix area. You can find em on Amazon or Ebay for cheap sometimes though.
My Rockport (shoes) have lasted me a year (got them Nov 2, 2013) and are still going. Worn, but still comfortable and safe. Probably will last until spring 2015. So yeah, Rockport makes a durable product.

There's a difference between walking, running, hiking, and cross-training shoes - but you'll really need to fork over some cash for the decent ones. For example Rockports used to be known mainly for city walking, while others are better for trekking. Walking Shoes: How to Choose
