The meshing is nice if you're really active in the warm weather since it airs out the feet and they won't stink as badly as they would with an enclosed shoe. But you're right that they're very cold in the winter. That's the trade off.

Hit the clearance racks from specialty stores to department stores to outlets such as TJ's.

Not a huge sneaker person here, but the only pair I've got are Under Armour and they seemed to have lasted a while. I'd buy them again.

I've worn a lot of Asics over the years, and always been happy. Went with a Brooks Ghost 6 this time, and cannot believe how fast I wore them down. I walk/run about 10-12 miles per week. I think 2 months isn't long enough for a pair of shoes.

My pumas have lasted me quite a few years. Ive also subscribed to theory that the more shoes you own, the longer each pair will last because you don't wear them to death. They also don't stink as much.

Adidas Superstar II. Look 'em up!
Got mine at Kohl's for about $50 recently.
The kind of lowtop shoe that late 1970's NBA guys wore (and RunDMC). Clamshell rubber toe, white leather, black adidas stripes. A great all-around shoe. Good for pickup basketball, or for pick-up truck fixing, or to pickup some cold ones at the corner store.
Looks classy, not like today's basketball moon-boots. retro but not outdated. LOVE it. And you can abuse them forever and they're just great. And if not on the court, they're the perfect go-to sneaker with jeans.
