Someone called the models a "hanger," which may be true, but it sure makes it hard to buy for people that actually have shape, esp after they've had a couple children and a few miles on them. My wife sure would like to buy some nice clothes that fit, but it's so hard to do.
Haute couture is not designed for people with shape and curves.
I wasn't really alive for most of the 1970s, bit looking at movies and my parents' pictures, women were WAY hotter then. Regular and actress/model.
Men are better looking now. By far.
I loved the fitness craze of the 80s-90s. I loved that Arnold action figure body phase Hollywood went through. The meat head action stars seem to be done now (though we still have Dwayne Johnson, my illegitimate husband) and I sort of miss it. I think people were better looking then, too. Even though I was born in the mid nineties, I love watching 90s beauty pageants and such... I loved the over use of the hair spray, and the coiffed hair. I hope THAT makes a come back, tbh.
I remember hearing that the supermodels of the '80s-'90s were so popular that many designers rebelled against them. Remember, Naomi Campbell's temper tantrums and Linda Evangelista's snooty comments about refusing to wake up for less than $10K per day?
Fashion Week became a circus and all of the magazine articles focused on their behavior--the more outrageous the better. The designers disliked this because they wanted the focus to be on the clothing, not the models. Gradually, many designers began to use models with more generic looks and personalities.
I miss my girls of the late 80s/early 90s. Yasmeen Ghauri, Linda, Karen Mulder, Stephanie Seymour, etc.. I still have all my fashion mags from back then. I hate how fashion mags now use actresses/entertainers for their covers.

There were all striking, unique and womanly. I agree with you on actresses as models. It's editorially lazy and trite.
