I don't mean to hijack the thread, but my husband buys workpants, Dickey's, from Walmart for about $21. They never wear out, are sturdy and comfortable, and they make his butt look cute. Don't dismiss the discount stores, or farm supply stores for things like jeans, because they focus on performance, not just fashion.

To the OP, if you mean you used to wear the classic Levi's 501's and 505's* that were the favorites of just about everybody, male and female, those don't fit anybody the way they used to. The cut was changed sometime during the late 1990s. Among other things, the back pockets were enlarged to almost painter/carpenter size, and they were moved down an inch or two, along with the back yoke. I discovered it one morning when I'd just put on a brand new pair, sat down to have my coffee, and found myself seated squarely on my wallet.
It was the last pair of regular Levi's I ever bought.
So FWIW, they don't fit anybody like they used to.
I'm an "older woman" and I don't have any problem finding clothes at a mall. Heck I think half of my wardrobe comes from H&M lately. Jeans from the Gap are excellent, and well below $100.
I am so envious of you. I take a larger size than you, I imagine. I fall between plus and XL. There is practically nothing for me, unless I order. Some of the catalog places carry things that fit. Very occasionally, I discover a 14W or 0X which usually fit, but they are pretty rare to find. And age has thickened my waist, so that is another factor for me.
If you can wear things from standard retailers, you are lucky!

I lost weight several years ago. I was up to a 2X for awhile. But I've had to fight the bulge for my lifetime. I also go to the gym and work out. Again, I think you are lucky.

Women, that's who. When you need a certain cut you can't grab just anything and your basic Levi is around $60. The vast majority of my jeans that were significantly over $100 are cold weather jeans designed for style and function, but my ex had relatively few jeans that weren't around or more than $100.
These are less expensive than other jeans on this site. And I remember finding and wearing NYDJ several years ago, when I was solidly in a plus size, and they ran almost $100.
It is interesting about jeans; you find them at every price point, and price doesn't necessarily equate to quality.
I like the jeans from Chico's. They generally run about $89 but they go on sale all the time for between $50 and $60. I'm middle aged and "fluffy" (got that middle aged middle roll thing going on which I hate but it is what it is) and Chico's jeans - well, all their clothes - fit me well. They come in a variety of styles and shapes. Currently, from Chico's, I have a pair of skinny jeans, a pair of regular fitting jeans that I can wear cuffed or not, a pair of jeans that are almost like utility pants (looser, wider legs, bigger pockets - cute applique details on the lower leg), and a pair of boot cuts that I just bought yesterday. I wear jeans a LOT and my Chico's jeans tend to last me about three years before feeling a bit thin from being washed often.
