Sunday, hubby and I have a date night ( YAYAAYAYAYAYY!!!) Its cocktails/apps type event. Im a XL/1X size, so i dont want to look like im wearing a curtain or pregnant. $0-$50 is the budget for the whole outfit (shoes, any jewelry, dress).
Requirements:
Knee length or longer
Can be sleeveless but a sweater or shawl has to go over it but otherwise, needs sleeves
Nothing low cut
any color
any style
Ideas? Thoughts?
Would a LBD with pops of color be ok? I thought maybe it would be too plain.
LBD is always OK. I assume you mean the pops of color come from accessories.
that way, you can change the accessories and look like you've got a whole different outfit.
where can you find a LBD for less than $50?
Sounds like you need to inventory what you have, and see if you can find either a dress to go with your accessories, or vice versa.
If you can find yourself the "perfect" LBD, you're set for life (well, at least for a while). A LBD can be dressed up with a chunky gold or silver necklace and earrings. Next time, you leave off the jewelry and drape a scarf with metallic accents around your shoulders. Next time, a fancy shawl. Next time....
You can wear fancy shoes with a LBD to perk it up or you can wear plain black heels for the elegant look. Red accessories and red shoes can really make a LBD.
You can wear that LBD to every event you go to, varying the accessories and nobody, but nobody will remember what you had on last time.....just that you are well dressed. If you wear something distinctive, everyone will remember it and you can only pull it off a couple of times.
I have dresses but they are not appropriate for cocktail hour. More like a picnic. Last time we went out, I wore a purple dress with green sweater and red shoes but I don't fit in that dress anymore and that was 2yrs ago.
I was hoping the goodwill or Plato closet/clothes mentor type store.
You're my kinda girl. Though I am having trouble making a "purple dress with green sweater and red shoes" sound like a good idea. Probably looks better than it sounds.
The problem (and joy) with used clothing stores is that you can't predict what you'll find, so I hope you shop early and often to find something special.
Cant go wrong with a little black dress. And I think you can definitely find one for under 50. I would see what shoes/accessories you might already have to give you more budget for the dress though.
Black clutch, possible silver, wide cuff for your wrist.
