I love my rolex watch. not because it always keeps great time (it doesn't), is beautiful (it is), or is easy to maintain...it ain't. It costs $750 every two years for maintenance and cleaning at our local rolex dealer.
as I wrote on this thread a year ago, I love this particular oyster perpetual date rolex watch because it reminds me of the person who gave it to me. I feel naked without it. I have worn it most of my life and will wear it every day until I die.

wow! $750 for serving didn't know it was that much? Also didn't know it is needed that often? But love my Rolex anyway.
I bought a Rolex back in 1989, and one for my husband as my wedding gift to him. I have worn it every day since except for when I once had it serviced. That was in 1999. When I bought it I was told it should be serviced every two years, I just didn't bother. It has had a hard life because I am an active person. It keeps excellent time. If I lost it I would likely buy another. I don't feel that a Rolex stands out. I think they are pretty ordinary looking. I have been wearing it for nearly 30 years and no one has tried to mug me for it yet.
What, they have Rolexes at Dick's? (I used to live in Surfside.)
The year I bought mine DH and I noticed a men's 18K Rolex for $9,450. It became a running joke between us- if the stock market had a good run, DH would ask, "Can I get that Rolex now?" I knew if I bought it for him he'd never wear it- too worried about losing it, and bling was not DH's style.
To answer an earlier question, on my last overhaul I authorized up to $950 of work. Magically, they found $950 of work and added shipping, handling and insurance and taxes. The crystal gets scratched easily and that's a few hundred $$. Next time I'll work directly with Rolex (not through the local jewelry store) and require an itemized list of what they want to do and sig off only on what I consider important.
