When I was ten, in 1963, I wanted a pair of "Beatle" boots in the worst way! There was no way I was getting a pair of Beatle boots. I'm sure they were very uncomfortable.
I went to a Christian school for 2 years in the 70's, and graduated from a public school in 75. I was allowed to wear jeans ONE day a week. Otherwise, skirts and dresses. I felt like I stood out like a sore thumb.
Once I started working and earning my own money though, my parents didn't really have any restrictions that I can recall.
Female and my mother didn't forbid me to wear anything. I graduated HS in 1984 and the styles were fairly conservative. Mostly jeans and tops. I was definitely conservative in my clothing, lol. I think the worst thing I wore was halter tops and that was during the summer and not at school.
She didn't "forbid" me but she didn't want me to wear makeup. To this day I still have no idea how to apply makeup
I graduated from high school in 2001. My mom wouldn't let me wear earrings, which was actually ok with me because I was scared to get my ears pierced (and don't have them pierced now). She didn't think they looked appropriate for a minor. She also didn't let me wear skirts/dresses if they were more than an inch above the knee, because she thought I would get attention from the wrong guys that way.
None. I graduated high school in 1985. Mom definitely would have preferred I dressed more conservatively, not so punk, but she never forbade anything. I did go as a preppy for Halloween one year, though, and she liked that! lol
Anything my mom thought looked sexy was taken away. Fishnet tights, shirts or dresses that showed cleavage, skirts that were above the knee, thong underpants, bras that were red or excessively lacy, etc. And sometimes I'd get home from work and she and my dad would be coming home from the bar and she'd be wearing the clothes she took away from me.
I learned to hide my sexier clothes until I was out of the house.
In high school in the 80s, my mom wouldn't let me wear long dangly earrings because she said they were too trampy. Of course, that's all I wear today.
