I have no desire for a rolex. I don't fault those who do though. I'd rather waste a few grand on something a little more exciting than telling the time and looking good. Different strokes for different folks!
If you had a choice would you rather have a a Timex or a Rolex?
Personally I love Timex. But I would not want to even own a Rolex.
Would I like to have the money on hand that a Rolex is worth? Of course.
But I wouldn't want to own a Rolex anymore than I would want a diamond necklace. It's just not something I would want. Either item would just be a novelty to me that I wouldn't want to wear.
If I really wanted a fancy mechanical watch, I'm happy with brands like Seiko.
I would never want one but I bought my wife one some 20 years ago. It needed to be fixed a couple of times and that cost a lot.
I have seen articles saying they hold their value also but we needed cash after 2008 and could not get any real money (in comparison to its price) for it either.
I think people who walk around wearing a Rolex are fools and become targets for robberies. When I see a Rolex on someone, I'm not impressed, it just reminds me how shallow and superficial they are.
I like my 'Rolex'. In 1990-something, I traded a box of 50 Cuban cigars for it. It turned out that the 'Rolex' was counterfeit...that's OK, so were the 'Cuban' cigars...bwahahahahaha!
I'm never worried about being a target for robbers, it's been tried before, a number of times. Every attempt has been a spectacular failure, I fully support The Right To Arm Bears...or something like that...
My $500 Ford gets me to and from work exactly the same as my $60,000 Cadillac does. A $200 generic suit from Kohl's covers my butt just as well as a $4,000 Armani suit. A $25 dollar pair of Walmart boots covers my feet just as well as a $400 pair of Redwings. Except that I have bought WAY more than $400 worth of Walmart boots that still haven't lived as long as one pair of Redwings.
We don't all buy things based on getting something as cheaply as possible that serves the core purpose that others perceive as the most important.
You have never seen the commercial where they say "Rolex gives you wings?"
Oh wait that is for something else.

As well as my expensive pieces, I have a Timex from the 80s that I got when I was a kid. Love it. Still working.
Rolex...says something about the man, which isn't particularly admirable or desirable.
Sort of like a guy driving around in a Corvette...there's a need that isn't getting satisfied elsewhere.
Haven't worn a watch in years. Have some European thing in the box; was a gift from a biz partner at Christmas. Likely worth a good deal, but I really have no interest one way or the other.
