I hvae never been able to use benzoyl peroxide. It is way too harsh for my skin and causes it to dry out and get blotchy. I have better luck using the Clarisonic brush in the shower 5 times a week and a more gentle cleanser alternating with salicylic acid about twice a week and a tea tree toner. I get body acne and zinc works wonders. I just started using this along with Amlactin body lotion (alternating days unless I am broken out) and they really help keep my body clear.
A lot of times people get combinations of folliculitis from yeast overgrowth and acne, so using products that help with both will keep your skin clearer than using products that help with one, as that tends to flare up the other issue.
Proactive damaged my skin and also bleached some of my clothes and some of my husbands clothes, too. I tried several other things, some expensive and some drugstore stuff. In my teens and 20s I struggled with pimple on my forehead mostly, but also on my cheeks or chin, too, from time to time.
I went to a dermatologist finally (this was back in my 20s) and he recommended Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. (Not the face wash or other varieties of Cetaphil. Has to be the Gentle Skin Cleanser.) So I tried it and my skin cleared up. It's now been 20 years and I use it every morning and every night and my face stays clear. I rub the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser in circles all over my face and neck, then hop in the shower and massage it off. I pat my face dry. At night I just do the same thing but I rinse it off over the sink with not too warm water, then pat dry with a clean cotton towel.
I moisturize with a few drops of jojoba oil in the dry places and that's it. I work now in an office where I feel like I should wear a little makeup, so I use a mineral face powder (lightly) that I found at Whole Foods and I apply a tiny bit of mascara. I put Egyptian Magic on my lips. In the winter if my face gets more dry I also put Egyptian Magic on at night for extra moisture. That's it. No pimples since my 20s.
I wonder if anyone knows a product that gets rid of pimples that have no head, are hardened and will NOT pop?
I've tried a battery operated suction thingy and one of those black-head remover thingys with the hole in the end, but no luck.
