First off, I rarely shop in an actual brick & mortar clothing store these days, but out of the three listed, I'm most likely to go into Macy*s. The only time I ever entered JCPenneys was to cut through and get to the other side of the mall. Kohl's merchandise just never appealed to me. I think I've been in it 3 times.
Unfortunately, I feel like Macys has gone down hill. The stores always look sloppy and I haven't really been impressed with the in-store merchandise, but I do find things I like on-line.
Oh, 1 thing I will add re: Macy's, I don't know if they did this w/ ALL locations or just a select amount, but they started having this section in the juniors' clothing dept called Thread Up that actually sells USED clothing (& it's still not that cheap). So that's NOT a good sign. I'd expect that more from JCPenny or some other lower-end store. So that means, there's less new clothes since they had to make room to put used clothes in there.
I've never bought used clothing in my life & don't ever plan to & now w/ this COVID, I don't know...eek.
When I saw the thread title, I assumed it would be about which one would go out of business first. In that scenario, I would pick Sears, then J.C. Penny, then Macys, then Kohls. By next year, they may all be defunct.
For shopping I use Kohl's when on the mainland and Macys here in Maui. Mostly I'm a Costco shopper and sometimes Walmart and Target.
Haven't been in a J.C. Penny store in probably 30 years. Same with Sears. Overpriced low-quality crap.
I buy from specific brands these days and most are shipped from Europe or South Korea. I’m of south East Asian origin and most of the men’s shirts here are too large or baggy for me. Hard to find slim fitted non athletic apparel in big department stores.
The only things I got from these 3 were workout tanks and shorts, because it’s easier to find slim fitted workout clothes. Of the 3, at least Kohl’s has a decent selection of men’s shoes & clothes while the others leave a lot to be desired. I have better luck in the northeast & west coast since there are more slim fitted men, hence the demand & stock for such types of clothes is higher.
Macy's. It's about 1.5 hrs away but worth the trip every now and then. Kohl's rarely has anything I like that fits. JCPenny left town a number of yrs ago.
Of the three choices I'd choose JC Penney, with Macy's second. But I tend to hit Dillard's before going to the other three, since all four are in the mall closest to me.
