It can be normal to have a lot of discharge and irregular with the hormonal IUD. The benefit is usually that you have really light (or no) periods.

5) buy a new six-pack when you're down to only a week's worth (or whatever jibes with your laundry frequency)

Discharge is normal throughout the month and doesn't necessarily indicate any medical problems.
