Short beards and mustaches are very manly. Some men look better with than without it.
It shows style and individuality.
Paired with longer hair? Love it! https://menshaircuts.com/celebrity-facial-hair-styles/
Those men have high self esteem and are self-confident.
Don't confuse it with some unkempt bikers or Santa Claus...
From your link Chris Hemsworth is a man who looks manly and rugged with either a short stubble or with a full beard...looking very confident as well....not many men can look so good either with stubble or full beard....
I always found the late George Michael having the coolest five o'clock shadow and also looked good in all of the different ways he would wear his facial hair.
Not hard to tell this thread was started by someone who doesn't care for beards. My sons are 38 and 35, and neither one of them have ever seen me without a beard.
Being a very “visual” person, I look at people when I talk to them. Beards over an inch thick HIDE facial expressions. It’s harder to tell if a person’s words match his true opinions.
For many, beards are a sign of insecurity. They make the wearer appear more like a male. They make him seem larger and in his mind stronger. And running his fingers through his beard or twirling pieces is like an antifiggit device.
Mustaches and sideburns don’t have these effects. And some males have beards because it’s difficult for them to shave. Short beards are more acceptable to me in that they account for that. But old men might be highly arthritic so I can see that keeping a trimmed short beard might be difficult.
So I associate big beards with hiding, insecurity, a need to dominate, and/or long term poor health.
And there is also the fact that beards trap dust, pollen, airborne bacteria, and potentially scents like cigarette smoke.
But your mileage might vary.

It is usually about trends, a lot of men are wearing long bushy beards nowadays, same with hairstyles I am a barber and see this firsthand everyday. They see some some trend online and follow it. I couldn't tell you how many men (mostly younger types) come to my shop regularly and the first thing they do is pull out their cellphone to show me a picture of some haircut they saw on the internet and they want it and a lot of them have beards and they want that trimmed too which I hate doing. I have tried to grow my beard a few times but I don't like it I shave pretty much everyday, I like a clean shaven look, I guess I get that from my father who lived to be almost 93 and honestly I never saw him with facial hair. He would shave every single day even on his days off.
Full beards don't appeal at all. Men with white or gray facial hair shouldn't have a beard, very aging, looks like Santa Claus. Everyone loves Santa but not as an object of attraction.

I don’t know if I posted this before, but I was married to my husband for 10 years before I saw his whole face. He shaved his beard on his 40th birthday and he looked a lot younger. Fast forward to post retirement. He has a gray trimmed beard now. It’s his face, so I’m fine with it.
Here is what I hate…young men who have scraggly, half assed stuff. If you can’t grow something good, don’t grow anything until you can.
