Oh man. This is no good.

Nike is sponsoring my golf shirts, UA sponsors my pants, and my shoe contract is with FootJoy.

I may have to fire my agent for pulling this stunt....

It's kind of an old fad, but some people still don't mix brands.

I wear Vans shoes with Ron Jon clothes because they aren't rivals.

Clearly, you're not dressing to impress people with your fashion sense.

OMG, and all this time I've been mixing my Walmart workout clothes with the Nikes I got at Goodwill! How will I EVER be able to hold my head up at the gym again?

Definitely a First World problem.

That's pretty funny.

IMHO, if you wish to present yourself as a bona fide knowledgeable athlete you wear the brand of shoes, pants, shirt, jacket or whatever that functions best for you, not anyone else. The labels may or may not match. If what you want is to present yourself as a label snob, go ahead and match everything regardless how well the pieces work. And leave the price tags on them for good measure.

Acceptable...to whom? In what context?

Exactly. I mix athletic wear all the time. I frankly couldn't begin to "G" less of a "F" (as the kids today say) as to who thinks what of it.
