[quote=momof2dfw;5044598]I can not stand white shoes period. Well, white pumps or heels. A small pair of white sandals is okay but white dress shoes just don't look right with MOST outfits. I've always lived by the "No White Shoes Before Easter or After Labor Day" rule.[/QUO
Do they even make white shoes/heels anymore?
Well I am 33 and I just can't break the rule no white purse for me don't own any white shoes now a beautiful "winter white" coat is not breaking the rules since it's winter white. My Mom and I were talking about this old fashioned rule this morning- my Grandma would have a fit in her grave too LOL!
I put away white shoes and purses after Labor Day. I will clean them and and if any need repairing off they go to the cobbler.
Also I put away light colored linen and white jeans and shorts. Within the next couple of weeks I stop wearing bright colors in favor of more fall colors. By the end of September we will have cool mornings and nights so it's easy to make the switch. Having said this I don't care what other folks do. Life is too short!
Growing up on Long Island, my Mom taught me this rule. Until I moved to Florida, the rule has not applied anymore for the most part. I can not wear white jeans, shorts or shoes during winter season because of this rule. It does look funny!
I think it depends on where you live. In AZ I never thought of it. As soon as we moved to the North East, I feel silly wearing white or madras after Labor Day!
I only recall ONE pair of white shoes (dress sandals) in my wardrobe, and I'll wear them in winter if I so desire... the weather here in San Francisco is mild year-round, so that old rule isn't observed. Although our consistent temperatures are on the cool side, and we actually have a phrase "San Francisco Black" in regards to our typical fashion sense. So in reality, you won't often catch me wearing any white - no matter what the season.
P.S. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but is anyone else thinking of the movie "Serial Mom?"
