you beat me to it.. We might also mention, the car registration fees are very low and so is car insurance. We pay less than a thousand a year on our two cars together. of course they are older cars, but still, we have never lived anywhere with such low insurance.

Chains will do you about zero good in Arkansas - we don't get the type snowfall that accommodates those. A lot of times there is ice mixed in, so no one with any sense goes anywhere. Metal on ice does not a good combo make :-) The snow is usually fairly short-lived anyway - by the time you got the chains on, it would be time to take them off again. Nope, we just basically hunker down and wait it out, and the wait is usually fairly short.

Your question should be "how badly do I need a generator?", LOL. My answer? You don't, until you do....then you wish with all your heart you'd put money into that little item o' loveliness. I guess a lot of that depends on where you live - especially if you are rural, I think it's almost a must. But last winter there were parts of Little Rock that didn't have power for 10 days during a major ice storm, and heavily populated areas. It was a total mess...cars could move around after a couple of days so you could go get gas, you just had no heat or lights. I love my generator - it's my Linus Blanket when the weather turns cold!

I think about the generator issue and I shake in my boots (or sandals right now) We do not have one, talk about getting one, put it off and then worry all winter...Call us nuts, so far we have been very lucky. At least our fireplace is propane, so we can stay warm if it gets to that.
