nmnita - A friend just sent me a photo of her trying to drive in Fayetteville. She was heading to Walmart for groceries. I gave her my prayers.

Here in the Ozarks, the weatherman pegged it !

I got up this morning and weather on computer said light snow starting at 10:30.
I drove up to Thayer MO ( 22 MILES) for 8:30 mass and headed home at 9:30.

At 10:15 light snow started falling and at noon it turned heavier and been falling steady.

I'm guessing about 4 inches on ground already .( all snow............no ice underneath )
Our area was forecasted for 2-4 inches.

Lets just start out by clarifying that even though Arksnsas is in the south..there is nothing terribly "southern" about the climate of NWA. Winters can be rough. Magnolias and southern pines don't grow along the roadsides. It may in fact be one of the coldest places in the "south" aside from the Mountains of Virginia and Kentucky. The region is usually referred to as the "upland south" but I think a better term would be the "US interior highlands"

Nothing southern about the climate in NWA?

It is firmly located in the humid subtropical climate zone, just like Little Rock, Shreveport, and Baton Rouge. It is not in the humid continential zone like Kansas City or Columbia Mo

For me, at least, I'm closer physically and climate-wise to Kansas City than to Little Rock. I wouldn't say that NWA was "firmly located in the humid subtropical climate zone" at all.

I'll bet the winter temps in NWA are a lot closer to Little Rock's temps than Kansas City's temps.

Teddy, I am willing to bet, but can't swear to it: NWA weather and snow accumulation are about 1/2 way between KC and Little Rock. Just watching the nightly news, if nothing else would pretty much bare this out. Just like OKC is usually about 1/2 way between Dallas and NWA when it comes to actual temps. In the summer it is a little warmer than here but not as hot as Dallas and the winters cooler than Dallas but not as cold as here. Of course I am generalizing. This also depends on how far north we are talking about. Bella Vista usually gets a little more snwo and cooler temps than say, Fayetteville.
