A woman at work (long time AR resident) is currently being monitored by her doctor for lung nodules. Apparently, due to the large number of chicken houses in Arkansas, there is a lot of chicken related particulate matter in the air making lung nodules common among AR residents.

I've never heard of this and thought I would pass it along.

I also wonder if this might be a factor from the old days where Chicken houses were much more prevalent near communities than they are today.

could be Histoplasmosis. Not rare. There are other fungal lung diseases such as Blastomycosis and Cryptomycosis but Histo is the one most associated with poultry.

it happens

several years ago, shortly after my cancer diagnosis, i was having all the body scans, tests and x-rays to determine if it had spread. while discussing the results with my doctor, he said "the only thing we see is a spot on your lung, probably histoplasmosis." i am sure he saw all the color immediately leave my body as my dry mouth said, "so i have it in my lungs?" he almost laughed, "no, histoplasmosis is common in this area and even more so with your history. we will watch it, but i don't think it is anything to worry about." they didn't mention it the last time i had scans and x-rays.
