I know and thats why it will never happen because they would lose their individuality. It should be just Fayetteville-Bentonville IMO.

Fayetteville is actually the least diverse city in NWA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fayetteville,_Arkansas

Outside of the U of A area and downtown, Fayetteville is actually quite conservative like much of NWA.

Fayetteville and Springdale might consolidate into a single city (perhaps adding Johnson to the mix). Bentonville and Rogers could also merge into a separate city and make NWA a metroplex-type thing, but all four principal cities in NWA would never merge into a single city for a variety of reasons. For one thing, Fayetteville and Bentonville are each the county seats of their respective counties, and while a county in Arkansas can have two county seats (like Eureka Springs and Berryville in Carroll county for example), I don’t think a city can legally be the county seat of two counties. NYC and it’s surrounding area had a different arrangement when they merged. It’s far from the same thing in NWA.

Someone had too much time on their hands to be resurrecting a 15 year old thread.

Reviving old post we are.

Fun topic but I don’t see the larger cities combining at all. Smaller ones may become absorbed into the larger ones but even that is a bit unlikely. There would have to be a good reason for the smaller town to vote for such a thing.

Also, school districts will not offer up any territory so you also have that to work through when considering combining the larger towns.

Have to admit, seeing one of Nita's old posts made me smile.

Never a bad thing to be gifted a smile.

Springdale already did with Bethel Heights. I could see Rogers merging with Little Flock, which is is fairly rural like Bethel Heights was. Johnson merging with Springdale or Fayetteville would be good since it’s such a speed trap.

The idea of Fayetteville merging with Springdale isn’t a bad idea at all. Fayetteville and Springdale have pretty much grown into each other. As Fayetteville has grown it isn’t as centered on the U of A as it once was. Springdale isn’t the blue collar city centered around Tyson Foods it once was either. Merging will also give the consolidated city more clout in the region and state. It wouldn’t be too far behind Little Rock in population. The idea of Rogers merging with Fayetteville and Springdale would be a stretch and adding Bentonville is practically impossible, given its distance from Fayetteville and being the county seat of a neighboring county.

A thread may be old, but that doesn't mean the topic is defunct.
