Snow is nothing around the Little Rock area. It's the ICE they get that kills you....dangerous! It's like driving on skates.

It seems that last winter was an especially deadly winter on 540. All those people going off the bridges really messed with me; especially the ones who had to jump off the bridge.

How do you good people in winslow make a living? I guessing that their is no damn Walmart. I do like ya'll's part of the country. I also like the fact that you watch out for one another. I would like to relocate but not ready to retire yet. Any friendly tips? By the way how far off I-540 is Winslow? Thanks

The little spot on HWY 71 known as Winslow is only about five miles from 540. Winslow was never a thriving metropolis, but is is just another statistic in the destruction of small-town America caused by the interstate system (not caused by Walmart). Speaking of Walmart, I am not positive, but I highly doubt that there is one in Winslow.

I used to drive through Winslow all the time to go see the Hogs play. I seem to remember some stunning views off of HWY 71.

When I was a kid 7 yrs old my dad decided to move to Ar from Iowa the first place we lived was Chester Ar this was in 1974 before 540 and the population explosion of the past several years in nw Ar Chester is maybe 10 miles from Winslow on the south side of Mt Gaylor.Mt Gaylor is the highest point on hwy 71. There is a lot of places that get really back in the sticks anywhere between Fayettville and Alma on 71 and it is really pretty country that for the most part hasnt changed alot since back then. Lake Ft Smith is at Mountainburg just to the south of Winslow.
It is not high enough to make much difference with heat. Its cooler in Rogers, actually if you start in Joplin Mo the futher south you go the warmer it gets. Its quite noticably warmer in Ft Smith than Bella Vista most of the time alot of the time you can tell the difference in Bella Vista and Fayetteville.

Yep, stunning views, and if you get too attentive looking at them you will end up down the mountain side amongst them!
