Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind and thoughtful replies -- you've given us a lot to consider, both in terms of the recommended neighborhoods and streets, and the overall "feel" of the area in general.

We're from the NYC area, so while the traffic won't bother us at all, I am a bit concerned about the "small" feeling that was mentioned, and the long distances we might need to drive in order to find some variety in shopping and activities. I know the area is gorgeous, but we're not incredibly outdoorsy people, so while we might go hiking a few times a year, it definitely wouldn't be a weekly thing for us. I'm also worried about the nearest trauma center being so far away -- I'm not a complete hypochondriac, but I do know that accidents and emergencies can happen, so I would much prefer it if there were larger hospitals nearby.

Lots to think about...

Thanks again for all of your help!

If you are not an outdoors person then you may want to consider a larger community. Outdoor activies are a big part of life here. That said is it beautiful and I have a number of friends who don't hike and still love it here. I would suggest coming out and spending a fair amount of time before you make the decision. We moved here 2 year ago and it is the best decision we have ever made. Good Luck!!!!

I've lived in Sedona for 8 years, coming from Portland Oregon. Although traffic can be heavy at times and is further bogged down by the ADOT construction project between Sedona and the Village, it's certainly not something you'll ever need to seek out alternate routes for. Instead of taking 5 minutes to get to work it might take you 7. :-)

And really, for what you're looking for there aren't any bad neighborhoods in Sedona - different maybe, but nothing really troubling. You'll find that most people in Sedona, in most areas, haven't used their keys in years. We lock the doors at night but rarely do during the day, even when not at home.

Along with the view, that's the best way to justify the higher prices here.
