I plan on moving to Florida in about two years after I graduate from college. I currently live in Northern New Jersey, about 20 min outside of New York City. Im looking for a change and have been to Florida about 3 times. Obviously Disney World but more recently Pensacola Beach. I love the area and the idea of warm weather all year around.

Do any locals have any suggestions for where specifically I should move to in Florida?

Im looking to become a teacher and my boyfriend is looking to become a police officer. We want a safe, affordable area that pays well.

Any suggestions would be great seeing as I am totally clueless to all Florida has to offer. Im also open to anyone that lives in Florida but doesnt think its a good idea to move there and are willing to explain why

That's a big question...it might help to narrow down what you're looking for...

1-Big city? Medium? Smaller area? Really small?
2-Near the beach? Does that matter? Or do you mind driving an hour or more to the beach?
3-Do you mind some cold? The panhandle can get cold in the winter. Not like where you're from, but there are nights where it can get in to the teens.
4-Urban? Suburban? Rural?
5-Laid back? Fast-paced? Other?

Anything else about what you're looking for would help.

Sorry for being vague. I would prefer to be close to a beach also by a busy city area but def wouldn't like to live in the city. I would like to be a close distant to all the action- city, beach and entertainment. I'm willing to be about 30 min away farthest. As far as the actual town population- no preference just dont want it to be too small where everyone knows each other. I'm willing to either have it be laid back or fast paced. Jersey is very fast paced so I wouldn't mind staying like that if had to be.

I don't mind cold weather but just don't want snow!

It sounds like Broward might be a good place for you, or maybe southern Palm Beach county.

We've just had some MAJOR government cuts this year and this is not the state to be a teacher.

That might depend on what you want to teach...math and science are still in demand.

I was going to say this exact thing. I live in Boca Raton. Just close enough to any entertainment I could possible want, yet well out of the city. I have 3 major airports within an hours drive as well.

Get jobs first, if you can, and move to where you get jobs.
