We are looking to rent (or possibly buy) a 2 bed / 2 bath condo anywhere in Florida. We would like a newer building in a safe area: either by the beach (ocean view preferred), or in the suburbs. Looking to move in about a month! Thanks!

Florida is a big state. You really need to narrow your search down a little.

agreed. and the different cities within it are so diverse as to make that question meaningless. people need to do their own homework.
haste makes waste. especially if theyre investing.

If you want an ocean view, you will be limited in locations. The parameters you provided are relatively meaningless to help you. What is your price range for buying or renting? Will this be a second home or year-round residence? Please help us so we can help you.

that's part of the problem, we literally can move anywhere in florida! We are a young couple in our late 20s, both from the midwest, who both work from home so work is not a problem. Our monthly budget would be up to $1600 and we will be living here year-round. We were hoping to get some ideas from people who live in the area on what their area is like...what there is to do around there, what type of people live there, what problems there are, etc so we can investigate a few of them further. We really like the idea of a newer home/condo (built in last 5-7 years). Thanks!

Midwesterns tend to like the west coast of Florida (Naples/Sarasota). It's a little sleeper on that coast because it is a more seasonal market. The beaches are very nice, but not many waves because it is on the gulf. You can find lots of stuff in your price range.

The east coast of FL is more expensive and has a more nightlife and variety. Since you're from the midwest, I recommend that you look at Fort Lauderdale. Miami will be too much of a culture shock for you and it is more expensive.
