I am palnning to move to Florida, but not sure which place would be more appropiate for me. Have jobs offers in Flager Beach, Tampa, and Stanford, FL. Looking to live near the coast and city, but do not want to live in a crowded place. Married, no kids, but planning to. I am in my early 30's. Like to go out, but not a party animal.
I really need some advise. I have visited all three and liked it, but not sure which would be a better place for me and my wife.
Please some one advice.

Flagler Beach was voted as one of the best places to retire in 2012. It is safe to assume that there is a slow, beach-y lifestyle and a lot of old people there. It is on the Atlantic, so that's good if you like waves and such. Sanford is a bit inland, but not too far from the coast, also looks like a small-town feel. Tampa is on the Gulf. Doesn't really have beaches there, but it is not far from Clearwater Beach and Sarasota, which have very pretty beaches. It offers a lot. Definately a bigger city, some nightlife if you want, but it isn't centered around nightlife like Miami. The people are pretty nice from what I've heard, and I've also heard it has a comfortable lifestyle. I'd choose Tampa because it offers more. Hope this helped a bit.

Saying there are no beaches in Tampa is like saying the statue of liberty is not in new York. Why?

Thank you hawaii4vr, that was very helpful. I want to live near the beach in a very lay back area. that is why I am between Clearwater and Flager beach area. Like the fact that Flager beach is near St. Augustine, Jax, and Orlando; and is less crowded than clearwater. But like Clearwater because is near Tampa city and there is more night life and young people. I guess I will have to put both in a scale to decide where to go.

Tampa is NEAR beaches, but doesn't HAVE beaches. It's on the bay/coast, but it doesn't have any beaches in the actual city of Tampa.

You're welcome, glad to help. Also, you may wanna consider weather. Central FL, like Clearwater, Tampa, is a bit warmer than the Flagler Beach area in winter. Both are prone to cold snaps, but in general the areas around Tampa are warmer and more "tropical". Plus, the beaches of the Gulf Coast are often considered better, unless the waves of the Atlantic are your thing.

Flagler Beach is a small, sleepy, and boring retirement community that's pretty much 100% White. If you are 60 years old, scared of diversity and looking for other seniors, it would be a great choice lol. You might even be the youngest couple in town!

Tampa has much more going on with easy access to beaches. You can find quiet communities within Tampa as well. You will have many more amenities available to you. I also prefer Tampa's beaches to Flagler's beaches.

Stanford is pretty much a part of Orlando and is a short drive from Daytona Beach. I would suggest finding a place next door in Lake Mary, which is a nice community that isn't hustle and bustle, but still not dead.

I would recommend visiting Tampa and Orlando and seeing, which area you prefer since they are near each other. Flagler Beach should be crossed off since you aren't 60 yet.

Flagler Beach is a sleepy beach town. Yes, there are a lot of retirees there, but there are plenty of families too. Almost every city in Florida has a large retiree community, you can't really get away from it. The retirees in Flagler County mostly live in Palm Coast. Bunnell and Flagler Beach are a little more "real", if you know what I mean.

It's also an easy drive to St Augustine and Daytona/Ormond.

Flagler Beach gets crowded on holidays though. It's the beach where all of the rednecks from west Flagler County and Putnam County go. I use the term "redneck" not in a derrogatory way, as I have been known to fit the mold myself. Not a bad thing, but that's just how it is.

There are many retirees in cities across Florida, but Flagler Beach stands out, I decided to look up the statistics:

Sanford (median age): 32 years old

Tampa (median age): 35 years old

Flagler Beach (median age): 57 years old
