Hi! I am a grad student (22 years old) interested in moving to Port Orange to attend chiropractic school. I just visited and it seems like a very nice area! However, I am wondering if there are a lot of other young adults in this area besides the ones I will meet at my small school. I saw somewhere that the median age is around 40 (not sure if that is accurate). I don't really want to get stuck in an area that is already full with settled down families. Also, is the nightlife in or around this area decent?

Thanks for any feedback!
Lisa

Port orange is pure suburbia and big box stores. Your closest major source of young professionals will be Orlando

New Smyrna Beach is very nice, and a LOT closer than Orlando. Takes 10-15 minutes to drive there from Port Orange. Port Orange is conservative, and there's a lot of folks from New Joisey there for some reason. Yes, P.O. is totally big box except for Ridgewood Ave, which is pretty trashy and redneck. We have a friend (from New Jersey of course) that we met at a Zen type retreat in Ormond and they live in Port Orange, but that's the exception for sure.

It's Florida. Lots of retirees.

Seriously, if you're coming here to study, it will be over before you know it!

There are 3 Universities in Daytona Beach: ERAU, DSC + BCU. Then there is Wyotech, Keiser and ATC trade schools. Plus Stetson in DeLand.

There are plenty of young people here. A lot of them meet through clubs, faith, other friends, sports, volunteer, work, etc. Even some of the larger apartment complexes catering to students have social events (you don't have to live in Port Orange as it's 10-15 min. to Palmer school).

Besides, you're supposed to be studying (NOT partying)!

absolutely incorrect. My god!

TONS of young people here. Tons of people your age, all normal, all in careers, all making livings by themselves. Lots of cool people. Don't let anyone on this site tell you any differently. Its just ridiculous. The majority of my coworkers are all from Port Orange and they are all great people. It's a great area. You'll see.

but I do agree that it's suburbia and big box stores. I really like the manicured look of it tho. Very woodsy. Lots of vegetation all around. And there are plenty of young people. I would live in PO if it was adjacent to the beach. A little bit of it is, but most of it is across the Dunlawton bridge.

lol yes studying will be the priority, of course, and will take up the majority of my time, but I need to relax every once in a while!

Thank you for the input! Glad to know there are a variety of different ways to meet some people around the same age!

Would you be able to tell me some of the apartment complexes that cater to students? Or are there any complexes that you would suggest?

Great! I am originally from a suburban area but I moved to Philadelphia for undergrad. I think I'm ready to live in suburbia again after dealing with a not-so-great part of the city! lol.

Im currently a quarter 5 student here at Palmer. I do live in Port orange and a good complex that is reasonable is Ocean Oaks there is also pierpoint right beside palmer and victoria gardens right across the street. Those two are a little more expensive and you'll have no problem meeting people especially at school there are alot of clubs, intramurals, and activities they do to help new students meet others. The night life isn't bad when we do go out we go to local bars or seabreeze which is a street in Daytona with a bunch of clubs.
