Look at Florida current property taxes, Texas, Indiana, North Dakota among others that are still holding on to the American spirit of decent property tax rates.
Tx has higher property and sales tax rates than fl fyi

My Texas home taxes run almost $3 per hundred, far more than FL taxes. However, there are homestead, etc exemptions. And no income tax.

What I would like to see is a prohibition against cities and counties requiring local licenses, etc for businesses. Should be state governance so all requirements are equal. Local additional requirements puts unneeded requirements in place.

Government contract jobs face excessive costs since state laws prohibit out-of-state contractors working in FL. We see this with excessive delays in home repairs after hurricanes, limited bids for government co structure. Jobs, etc, driving up costs to the taxpayer.

These costs drive up government costs excessively.

The point is that it is much lower than the liberal states as the poster was speaking of.

I agree! Our property taxes increased 26.7% this year due to increased valuation. Bay County just increased our millage for 2015 27%. The county commission can just decide they need more revenue and raise the rates! Being an out of state property owner we can not even vote against these bums. At least here in Alabama the voters have a voice in any tax increase.
That being said, what does Charlie Crist have to due with local property taxes?

Look up "Save our Homes." Originally meant to help people keep their homes in the face of rapidly increasing property values, the nasty side effect is that when you buy a new home your neighbour may be paying half of what you're paying in property tax for the same City and State services. SOH has also introduced additional fraud in to the property tax system. The better approach would have been to reduce millage rates to keep the actual net property tax bills in check.

All I know is the simple fact that most liberal democrat states have massive property taxes well above those that are still red states. Since Florida now is rapidly becoming a blue state, I presume housing taxes will also rise and no not just as values rise. Call the thread stupid all you like but aside from natural increase in property tax from assessments going up is one thing but there have got to be some governmental drivers increasing blue state property taxes so much?

Natural assessment increase may be a problem moving forward as well as long as foreign money continues to come in and pay well above market value leaving most locals without the ability to own homes. This will create un natural assessment increases overtime so hopefully they have some sort of a cap on how much taxes can rise annually.

That's not true in all cases. For example, average real estate taxes are quite a bit higher in Houston, Tx than in Philadelphia, Pa.

It's purple now. Wouldn't say it goes blue overnight. Remember, we probably will never have an income tax (forbidden in the constitution) and our property taxes are lower than even TX.
