In a way it's why so many people suffer in Florida's climate because their body is only acclimatized to the false conditions of artificial cooling.
Although at 69-years-old you're doing to right thing by exercising in a cool atmosphere.
But I see so many young, fat people waddling as fast as they can from house to car to anywhere that has A/C in the fear that,God forbid, they might actually sweat a little.
It's ironic because sweating could help them lose some of their extra weight.

I agree that older people shouldn't be exercising outside in such extreme temperatures since that can be dangerous.

Anything to do with working outside. Never cared for the reverse west windflow when i was younger and sure as heck hate it now.

So if someone hates this kind of weather heather then they must be fat to hear you tell it.

This is quite true; you can always add more layers. I just really dislike all those layers of clothes. It's very restricting and gets old after a few months. But you're right--you can only wear so few pieces of clothing. When it's miserable here in the summer, I try to keep as cool as possible without the A/C. I use cold washcloths, fans, etc., and I limit my strenuous activities to nighttime hours. I wear my hair up almost all the time--even while I sleep if it's really bad. I'm not sure how far those measures would go down there in FL, though, since it does make me a little lethargic to be so hot for long periods of time. I guess I wouldn't really know for sure unless I lived there for a full year to experience the weather for myself. I've only ever visited in the fall/winter.

As Roscoe said, its a matter of acclimating to the weather. Here you dont need to switch from one to the other climate twice a year which I think makes it easier. Summer is miserable in a lot of places. Here in FL the "summer" is longer. I think your hot weather procedures would work quite well for you here.

At least you have the smarts to leave when it starts warming up. A lot of people here who cant deal with the heat dont leave but prefer to "sweat it out" summer after summer.

If Florida is in your future and you want some more training how about a 2 week visit mid July or August. You can luxuriate on Tampas beaches basking in the sun enjoying those cooling ocean breezes..

There are no cooling breezes. Just a nasty stuffy breeze of off nasty 90 degree water temps.

I sense sarcasm. There is no such thing as cooling anything in Fla from March -Nov at the earliest. June, July, Aug are so hot the water is too hot to even go in and the sand will give you blisters to walk on. Ahhh that great fla lifestyle. Burn , sweat, overheat , repeat..

You've outed me Sweetb .
However if member freedomdove follows through on his/her intentions of moving to Florida July/August is the best time to find out if you can handle the heat, also a good time to discover the futile cooling effect those rare ocean/Gulf breezes will bring and the fact there are no beaches of consequence in Tampa.
