Hi,

I have read some good and some bad about special education in Florida. I'd like to get more personal experiences dealing with special education to help us with a decision to relocate to the state. Our child has moderate issues. Have your experiences been good or bad? Are there any types of medical programs for children with disabilities? Are school districts receptive and easy to work with? Better areas of the state than others in regards to special education?

Thank you so much for your assistance!

Where are you relocating from, and how are your school districts organized now? Which area are you looking relocating to?

In FL school districts are by county, which can actually work well if it's well funded. We moved to Collier from Long Island, where each village and hamlet had its own school district. My local district couldn't provide the services my family needed so they were bused an hour each way to a school that was quite honestly, horrible.

My experiences here are BETTER than those in NY. More receptive, willing to work with parents, and happier teachers. The main difference is age - teachers here don't get paid as much so tend to be younger.

Relocating from PA. School districts are numerous, many communities have their own. Some are good and others are lacking. We like Orlando and the Space Coast, but are open to the best area we can find in the state.
