The Florida Supreme Court did not rule on the legality of red light cameras. They ruled that a private for profit corporation can have a civilian employee view a video to determine if a driver should be issued a $158 fine of which the employees company gets $75 of the fine.

Legal theft via a road tax. I hope these thieves who ruled on this all get the karma that they deserve.

When we vote out the politicians in favor of this they will get the message.

But several elected officials throughout South Florida, from Boca Raton to Hollywood, told the South Florida Sun Sentinel on Thursday they had no plans to turn their red-light cameras back on.

Hallandale Beach was the first city in Broward to ditch the cameras in January 2014.

“The data I saw showed that we were decreasing public safety with rear-end collisions,” Hallandale Beach Mayor Keith London said of the cameras. “If it’s a detriment to public safety, why would I bring it back?”

Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy said he too has no intention of reviving the city’s camera program.

Who cares where the money goes. They have an impact on the idiots that run red lights. Stupid and self centered people exist and drive. Fine them for dangerously breaking the law. A bigger fine would be better.

At the cost of more rear end collisions. Equally stupid and dangerous, which is why many municipalities won't re Institute them

I’m all for red light cameras, Florida is one of the worst states for red light runners. Almost got killed by one, taken by ambulance, spent over a year recovering. Fine those idiots.

Florida should have ripples on the road, when the driver is coming to a major intersection. Also install speed bumps when approaching a stop sign. No one wants to mess up their suspension.

Not when the system is being gamed against drivers to extort fines, while increasing the rate of rear end collisions at traffic intersections
